What are the details of teeth whitening?

It’s safe to use and only requires a short amount of time. You may choose to lighten all of your teeth or only your upper or lower ones, depending on how much of your teeth you show when you talk and smile.

Dental bleaching can be used to correct tooth discoloration. Discolorations can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. In some cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be more effective. Dr. Sporborg will help you figure out which course would be the most effective for your teeth.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

For the quickest results, we recommend in-office bleaching. During this procedure, a barrier is placed over your gum line. Then a professional-strength, light activated bleaching solution is applied to the teeth and let sit for a designated amount of time . The results are noticeably whiter, brighter teeth in under one hour! If you do not reach your desired shade, another bleaching cycle can be done. After the procedure is complete, we will give you a bleaching pen and light to take home to help maintain your newly whitened smile. An alternative to in-office bleaching is at-home whitening.

How is at- home teeth whitening done?

For optimal bleaching results at home we recommend you bleach your teeth after a recent dental cleaning.

We currently use 2 different methods. 

1. A package of prefilled upper and lower disposable bleaching trays may be worn daily for up to 1 week.

2. A professional-strength whitening pen used with a specialized LED light may be used daily. 

Once your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile.

Some patients can experience side effects from any bleaching material. The most common side effect is tooth sensitivity. This is not permanent. Sensitivity gel is available.
